World Trade Center: Then & Now, Dinner with Ahmad Rahimian, PhD, PE, SE, F.ASCE, USA Director of Building Structures

Dr. Rahimian will discuss trends in tall buildings and plus talk about his own experiences designing the new One World Trade Center tower.

Mr. Stewart will talk about the keys to successfully navigating risk he’s observed in his practice while discussing some lessons learned.

Professional Negligence

Speakers: Karen Erger and Eric Singer

This session will be an interactive discussion of the current state of the standard of care by which design professionals' negligence is determined. The speakers will review some of the ways that standard can change, and share some practice management strategies that can help design professionals establish that their performance met the applicable standard.

How to Succeed without Risking it All!

Speaker: Brent White

Achieving success on projects can be elusive. With many technical / non-technical demands on today’s structural engineering Project Manager (PM), this session will focus on how non-technical items can produce some risky challenges during the life of a project and how a PM can successfully navigate these challenges. During the session, several tools/checklists developed by CASE will be showcased, giving PMs resources to help reduce risk factors on a project and achieve that elusive success!

Secrets to Communicating Technical Topics to Non-Technical Audiences

Speaker: Shelley Row

This program hones skills to convert technical material into information that is quickly and clearly understandable to non-technical audiences. Research in neuroscience reveals tips that aid in retention. This program is for anyone who presents difficult material to the public, elected officials, executives, or other decision-makers who have little time and less background in the subject area. You get one chance and it needs to go well.

Recapping New Risk Management Concepts

Moderator: Brian Stewart, Collins, Collins, Muir & Stewart, LLP

This session will be an interactive discussion of the risk management challenges encountered by structural engineering firms on a daily basis and the best practices employed by firms to address those challenges.
